Light Waves
Huygens' Principle
Huygens' Principle: Every point on a wavefront acts as a point source; the wavefront as it develops is tangent to their envelope. Huygens' Principle is consistent with diffraction.
Diffraction
Diffraction refers to various situations which happens when a wave encounters an obstacle or slit that is comparable in size to its wavelength.
The double slit experiment performed by Thomas Young played a major role in the general acceptance of the wave theory of light. the diagram explains the way Young laid out his revolutionary experiment. Young's experiments results contradicted Newtons corpuscular theory. the experiment made the wave theory of light a much more accepted scientific theory. |
Visible light spectrum
the visible light spectrum is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that the human eye is capable of seeing. A normal Human eye can visualize wavelengths from 390 -700 nm.
