Characteristics of Waves
The definition of a wave is a disturbance or oscillation that travels through matter or space accompanied by a transfer of energy. Sound waves and light waves are very important to the modern world. On this web page I will be explaining how sound and light waves work.
There are several different characteristics of waves. The crest is the highest point on the wave. The trough is the lowest point on the wave, The amplitude of a wave is the measured distance between the center of the wave to either the crest or trough. Wavelength is the length of one cycle. Frequency is how many wavelengths pass in one unit time (normally 1 second). Period is how much time it takes one wavelength cycle to pass.
